Realistic & NerfHerderZach started off drinking ungodly amounts of alcohol together, freestyling back & forth for hours, & talking shit all night...
That was about 3 years ago...
They always talked about collaborating on songs, but the tracks rarely ever came to fruition for one reason or another.
The two artists have a very different taste in music so it was difficult at first to agree on beats & approaches. The freestyle chemistry was effortless though...
Never sober in each others presence, Nerf & Real shared many laughs, fun times, 12 packs & cigarettes together...
Also, despite the differences of styles, they both shared a genuine love for hip-hop & a brother hood that went even beyond hip-hop itself...
Towards the end of 2019, "Like Who You Are" was born with the song "Overcast", that was originally supposed to be on NerfHerders' solo album: "Buckets For a Sinking Ship."
This song started a snowball effect of organic collaborations, most of them written & recorded on the spot together. A common ground was found without really trying to find it. The fastest way i can attempt to describe the sound is by a comparison of record labels...
Imagine if "Mello Music Group" (which is more Realistic) & "Rhymesayers" (More Nerf) had a baby, & that baby listened to alot of Lo-fi hip hop. That's the best way to sum up the combination that came together to create this well rounded, extremely thoughtful hip-hop masterpiece.
Filled with depth, filled with catchy hooks, melodies, raw bars, loud laughs & vibey soundscapes, "Like Who You Are" is damn near undeniable to the ear drums...
